DRESS CODE FOR STEPHENS COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL

Stephens County High School is classified as the workplace for our students.  Therefore, proper, modest attire is the expected norm.  The following guidelines are intended to aid students and parents in the understanding of our dress code.  It is not all-inclusive but rather a guide to help establish a standard.  Our dress code will be reviewed periodically to meet the intended needs of our school and student.
• No shirt tails may be below fingertips.
• Pants, shorts, and skirts must be secured at the waist.
• No short shorts or short skirts (with or without tights or leggings).   Must be no more than 4” above the knee.
• No clothing with holes or cutouts may be worn.
• Shirts cannot hang off the shoulder.
• Tank-tops, tube-tops, spaghetti straps, halter-tops, without under/over shirts, are not permitted.  All tops must be at the neckline or show no cleavage.  No mesh or see through tops may be worn without undershirts.
• The midriff must be sufficiently covered at all times.  Appropriate undergarments must be worn.
• Young men may not wear sleeveless or open shirts without under shirts.
• Shoes must be worn at all times. Bedroom-type shoes are not permitted.
• No pajama tops or bottoms may be worn.
• Clothing displaying, promoting, or advertising alcohol, tobacco, or other illegal substances are not permitted.
• Clothing displaying obscene, sexually suggestive, or profane phrases, illegal activity, markings, or designs, and gang related designs, are not permitted.
• Dog collars, or chains are NOT permitted.
• Excessive, distracting piercings are not permitted.
• Head coverage (except religious attire, which must be approved by the Principal) may not be worn inside the building. Hats, caps, bandanas, sweatbands or sunglasses are not permitted inside the building. Hair combs or picks are not to be worn in hair. These items worn in the building will be taken and given to an Administrator and returned after discipline assignment is completed.

*The faculty of Stephens County High School depends on the good judgment of our parents and the sensitivity of our students not to wear clothing that may cause disruption in the learning process.  Parents or students who have specific question about an item’s appropriateness should consult the local school administration.
